Hong Kong China Unicom Adds 1.17 Million Subscribers In Feb

HONG KONG -(Dow Jones)- Mobile phone services operator China Unicom Ltd. said Sunday it added 1.17 million subscribers in February, bringing its total mobile customers to 130.27 million.

The February gain was less than the 1.31 million subscribers added in January, when sales were helped by heavier promotion during the Chinese New Year holiday.

In February, China Unicom added 888,000 subscribers to its global system for mobile service, or GSM, to a total of 96.95 million.

Customers for the company's code division multiple access service, or CDMA network, rose 278,000 to 33.32 million.

China Unicom is China's second-largest mobile phone operator by subscribers, after China Mobile (Hong Kong), which had 250.72 million subscribers at the end of January. China Mobile will release its February subscribers figures March 20.
