The USA based phone retail franchise Wireless Toyz, says that it doubled its footprint to 124 stores in 2005 and expects to repeat the achievement in 2006, with a total of 250 stores anticipated by the end of the year. Michigan-based Wireless Toyz opened 65 new stores last year, expanded from 12 states to 19, awarded 97 new franchise licenses, and added seven new territory developers to the 13 previously participating in its master franchise program. The new area territories added in 2005 included Denver, San Antonio, San Diego, San Bernardino, Orange County , Tampa and Toledo.
This brisk growth rate was a key factor in Wireless Toyz' ranking as one of the top new franchises of 2006 by Entrepreneur magazine, covering franchises that are five years old or less. Wireless Toyz ranked 19th out of 50 new franchises and also earned the #79 spot in the magazine's list of the year's fastest-growing franchises.
The company already has signed franchise agreements for all of the 125 new locations scheduled to open in 2006, including the first outlets in Virginia, North Carolina and New Mexico. The firm is currently on track to have 1,000 stores open by 2011.
"Shopping for cellphones on a carrier-by-carrier basis has become too complex and too time-consuming for most consumers. Our growth is directly related to the fact that we have reduced the process to a single visit to a single store with a staff of wireless experts who are familiar with equipment and service plans from all the major brands," said Joe Barbat, Wireless Toyz founder and chief executive officer. "We pioneered this business model and have dominated the market because of the systems we have put in place over the years to simplify the cellphone shopping experience."
