Ningbo Bird Secures Indian Handset Distribution Deal

China's Ningbo Bird has announced the formal launch of its GSM handsets under the brand name of Bird in western India from Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Targeting the low-end customers, the company has launched seven new GSM mobile phones priced starting from US$65. The company has plans to enter places like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh, in order to target towns and villages where mass is available.

Adarsh Shastri, director, marketing of NBSCL, said that the company has unveiled different handsets with various features like 65,000 colour display, handy 2x zoom 300k CMS built-in camera, FM radio, GPRS, WAP, MMS and EMS compatibility.

Nigbo Bird has established its branch office in Ahemdabad and is planning to launch high-end mobile phones, with features like dual speakers MP3s, video capturing, blue tooth, infrared and others, later after six months or a year.

"More than 70 per cent of world mobile phone market is using China made phones. In India with an aggressive marketing, company will tap the vast untapped potential that exists in these markets," said Shastri.

The company is also planning to launch its CDMA phones in India, for which they are currently in talks with both Tata Teleservices and Reliance Infocomm."
