SANTIAGO -(Dow Jones)- Chilean telecommunications company Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones SA hasn't been approached by Mexican entrepreneur Carlos Slim, local business paper Diario Financiero reported Friday, citing company sources.
Entel has persistently faced takeover rumors, while Slim's Telefonos de Mexico SA de CV and America Movil SA de CV have expanded in Chile through takeovers.
Cable television and telecom VTR, held by Liberty Media Corp., has also been rumored to be interested in Entel and recently hired an Entel executive.
The Entel sources didn't rule out some type of cooperation with a cable television company in the future, the paper added.
Following a revision by an outside consultancy, Entel's fixed-line operations face a restructuring, the paper also said, citing Antonio Buechi, head of the company's fixed-line operations.
Its long-distance and Internet businesses have shrunk dramatically over the past few years.
