Nepal Telecom is to replace a range of existing GSM value-added service equipment with systems from ZTE Corporation. ZTE will supply Nepal Telecom with a range of value-added services equipment including 1,300,000 lines of HLR (Home Location Register), 1,000,000 lines of WIN (Wireless Intelligent Network), 300,000 lines of SMC (Short Message Centre), 500,000 lines of VMS (Voice Mail System) and 400,000 lines of CRBT (Colour Ring Bell Tone).
The networks, due for completion by December 18, 2005 will enable Nepal Telecom to provide improved WIN, SMC and VMS services to its GSM subscribers across the country, and polyphonic ringtone services to all GSM users in Katmandu, Nepal's capital and largest city.
"We believe the value-added services platform will not only bring broad access to value-added services to the people of Nepal, but also revenue-generating opportunities to Nepal Telecom" noted Mr Sabin Shrestha, chief representative of ZTE Nepal.
In 2004, ZTE won the biggest CDMA contract in Nepal's telecom history, under which, ZTE would supply CDMA2000 1X equipment to build a state-of-the-art network to cover the country's major populated areas. In April 2005, ZTE signed an agreement with Nepal Telecom to bring the first mobile data services to Nepal."
