300th Base Station for Sri Lankan Operator

Sri Lanka's Mobitel has launched its 300th Base Station, at Ballungala, Kadugannawa, reaching this milestone in a record 18 months, since the inauguration of its GSM network. Amongst those present at the launch ceremony were CEO of SLT & Board Director of Mobitel Mr. Shuhei Anan, CEO of Mobitel Mr. Suren Amarasekara as well as the Senior Management of Mobitel.

Sri Lanka has about 2.2 million mobile subscribers, with Dialog holding a 60% market share. Celltel trails in second place with 20%, followed by Mobitel 13% and Hutchison 6%, according to an Asia Securities research report.
