LONDON -(Dow Jones)- Vodafone Group PLC (VOD), the U.K.-based mobile telecommunications company, Wednesday said it has no immediate plans to launch a low-cost mobile phone service.
German press reports Wednesday quoted Vodafone Chief Executive Arun Sarin as saying the company plans to establish a low-cost brand to target an additional 5% to 15% of the market Vodafone doesn't reach.
But a Vodafone spokesman told Dow Jones Newswires that the company has no immediate plans to launch a low-cost brand. He said that the company is considering such a move, among other options.
The spokesman declined to comment on whether Vodafone is in talks to buy either Czech operator Oskar Mobil, or its owner Telesystem International Wireless Inc. (TIWI).
