The port of Murmansk in Northern Russia - the world's largest city north of the Arctic Circle - is to receive a CDMA450 network from China's ZTE. This latest success for ZTE follows a contract win with Skylink, Russia's largest CDMA operator, which will see ZTE provide a CDMA2000 1X system to cover all of Murmansk, Russia's largest seaport on the Arctic Ocean.
"We are delighted to see the equipment and satisfactory performances of the system. We are very confident that ZTE will provide perfect services for our users with its advanced CDMA technology and we look forward to a long-term business relationship between us," said Mr Gennady Golant, General Director of Delta Telecom, a subsidiary of Skylink.
Under the contract, ZTE will provide a full series of CDMA2000 equipment, including base stations, switching and data networks. ZTE's solution enables operators to upgrade their networks as required; the system can migrate smoothly to CDMA2000 1X EV-DO, supporting a peak data rate of 2.4 Mbits/s; equipment can also be added for GoTa (Global open Technology Architecture) digital trunking services, LBS (Location Based Services) and other services to fully meet users' changing requirements.
"Our CDMA solutions have been installed around the world, from the deserts of Africa to the mountains of Nepal," said Ms Fang Rong, Vice President of ZTE. "Installing equipment in Murmansk is proof that ZTE's products can cope in some of the coldest areas on the planet and we are pleased to have the opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities."
