Motorola, Oakley To Create Bluetooth-Enabled Products To Wear\"

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Motorola Inc. (MOT) and Oakley Inc. (OO) formed a joint venture aimed at marrying Bluetooth wireless technology used in electronics like PDAs and cell phones with decidedly lower-tech items like sunglasses.

Motorola said in a press release early Friday that the companies hope to deliver "evolutionary and innovative" products for consumers seeking hands-free, untethered operation of their electronic devices.

The companies plan to roll out wearable wireless communications devices by mid-2005, the telecommunications-equipment maker said.

Oakley, which creates sunglasses, apparel and other accessories, said in the statement that the deal allows it to expand the possibilities for its new electronics category.

Bluetooth-enabled devices can communicate with each other wirelessly over very short distances, allowing, for example, a personal digital assistant to send a file through the air to a nearby printer.
