STOCKHOLM (Dow Jones)--Norwegian telecommunications operator Telenor ASA (TELN) said Tuesday its Thai unit Total Access Communication PCL (T05.SG) has set up mobile phones for free local calling in areas struck by tidal waves.
Telenor spokesman Dag Vangsnes said the company's Norwegian customers can also call back home without charge when using Total Access Communication's DTAC network in Thailand.
DTAC has separately said its network is back to normal in some of the stricken areas and at least partly functional in others.
"We will not comment on any costs related to repairing the networks," said Vangsnes on the phone from Norway's ski resort Hemsedal.
Telenor has a 40.3% ownership in DTAC.
