China's Huawei Technologies has been awarded a contract by Ettihad Etisalat, an operating company created by Etisalat to oversee its operations in Saudi Arabia, to construct the second GSM network in the kingdom.
One month before that, the consortium led by Etisalat, the UAE telecom giant, offered the highest bid of SR12.21 billion to win Saudi Arabia's second mobile phone license. Etisalat will provide its services at local, national and international levels through the nation.
According to the contract, Huawei will deliver the leading soft-switch-based GSM equipments to help Etisalat to build the national mobile network in the Middle East's biggest telecom market within the next few months."
