Charities across the country are receiving a belated holiday gift thanks to a campaign sponsored by Dobson Cellular Systems. Dobson, which owns wireless markets in 16 states, says that it raised more than US$1.5 million as part of its Santa Cause campaign last winter. Santa Cause focuses on raising money for children's charities.
Among the beneficiaries are 50 Big Brothers and Big Sisters chapters across the country, many of which say the donations will help keep local chapters running and help establish new activities for the organization. All of the monies raised will stay in the towns where it was raised, according to Dobson officials.
Dobson wireless customers were asked to donate $20 to the campaign that ran last November, December and January. In return, the company gave donors a package of wireless features and services.
"We believe in giving back to the communities we serve," said Dobson Chief Operating Officer Douglas B. Stephens. "We focus on providing quality wireless service to predominately rural areas and we feel like this is a great way to show our cities and towns how much we believe in them."
This marks the seventh year Dobson has conducted the Santa Cause campaign."
