Recycling Cellphones in Denmark

Far too many Danes are apparently throwing their old mobile phones out with their household rubbish, which is harmful to the environment. But not customers on Denmark's GSM network operator, Sonofon who can hand in their old mobiles and batteries at Sonofon shops.

"Our customers can hand in their old mobile phones at our shops. We have undertaken to dispose of the electronic components properly," says Bo Heimann, Press Officer, Sonofon.

The same applies to old mobile phone batteries.

"Customers can come in to us with their batteries. Like the handsets, batteries are sent to our workshops where they take care of destroying the batteries appropriately. Sonofon has decided to destroy all batteries just to be on the most environmentally safe side, even though nowadays, most can in fact be thrown into the rubbish bin," says Bo Heimann."
