Vodafone Ghana Close to Overtaking Rival Operator

Vodafone's Ghana operations are expected to overtake Tigo as the country's second largest mobile network by subscribers before the end of this year.
According to data from the National Communication Authority (NCA), Vodafone had 3.89 million customers at the end of September, compared to 3.998 million for Tigo.
However, Tigo is losing customers while Vodafone -- which bought a controlling stake in what was then called Telecom Ghana in August 2008 -- continues to gain them.
The market leader, by a significant margin remains MTN with 9.89 million customers.
Smaller operators include Airtel with 2.43 million customers and Expresso which continues to lose customers, now down to 204,153 subscribers.
The country's total subscriber base is 20,419,635 representing a population penetration leval of 80.5%.
