Twitter Tests Adding Video Clips to Hashtags
Published on: 26th May 2014
Note -- this news article is more than a year old.
Twitter is looking to expand its advertising options and appears to be experimenting with promoting media content when a user types in a hashtag.
At the moment, only one hashtag appears to have the function, and it only works on iOS based apps, but whenever a Twitter user tags their comment with the, frankly rather unwieldy #amillionwaystodieinthewest, then an option appears to also add a link to the video trailer for the movie.
Adding a link to the video, and the lengthy hashtage seriously reduces the amount of space left for the user's own comments.
However, it appears to be just an experiment at the moment, and could lead to hashtags being sponsored by brands who have media content to add as well.
