Note -- this news article is more than a year old.
USA based Intrado says that it has made the first production delivery of emergency text messages from an unnamed, but said to be major mobile network operator through an interconnected network of service providers.
Interoperability between leading text service providers enables the seamless delivery of emergency texts, regardless of the text solution chosen by either the wireless carrier or public safety agency.
"This is a major milestone which we expect will accelerate the adoption of text-to-9-1-1," said John Kearney, vice president and general manager, Intrado. "We now have the capability to deliver text messages seamlessly from any text-enabled wireless carrier to any text-enabled public safety answering point (PSAP). An important benefit to public safety is the ability to use one text service provider to support all of their text-to-9-1-1 messages.
Intrado deployed the nation's first text-to-911 service in Iowa in 2009.
