Twitter Tests Temporary Mute Function for Noisy Tweeters

Twitter is testing a new feature that would let users temporarily mute people they follow without formally blocking them.
The feature is said to be of use to people who might tweet excessively at events, and annoy their followers, but only for a short time, thus not deserving of an unfollow, or a block.
Although some 3rd-party Twitter apps have long included similar mute functions, or the ability to hide all tweets containing a keyword, this is the first time it has been extended to the official Twitter service.
The trial is currently only appearing on the latest updates for Android and iPhone users, and appears to be for only some users.
Twitter has not commented on the trial officially, but did state last September that it would be rolling out a range of similar features at some point shortly.
