Google Upgrades its Hangouts App for G+ Users

Published on:

Google has announced that it is updating the Android app for its Google Plus hangouts service.

Among the upgrades is support for merged conversations: SMS and Hangout conversations with the same recipient are now combined into a single conversation.

Users will be able to control whether they want to send a message via Hangouts or SMS with the flip of a switch, and different message types will be easy to tell apart in the conversation.

There is also a simplified contact list with two main sections in contacts, separating Hangout contacts from conventional phone contacts.

The update also includes better quality video calls, as well as improved SMS and MMS reliability.

The new version will be available in the Google Play store later this week.
