Norway Delays 1800Mhz Spectrum Auction

The Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority (NPT) has decided to postpone the 1800 MHz auction.
The auction had been scheduled for January 2015.
The frequencies available in the auction are the unsold blocks from the multiband auction in December 2013. After identifying demand for the available resources NPT consulted the market on the framework for the assignment process. On the basis of an overall assessment of the consultation responses NPT decided to assign the frequencies through a multiround ascending auction.
However, this summer TeliaSonera released news about the planned acquisition of Tele2 Norway. This acquisition requires approval by the competition authority and furthermore the Ministry of Transport and Communications might have to assess the transfer of Tele2's existing spectrum holdings. These possible changes in the market situation might impact several of the potential bidders in the auction. NPT considers it to be important that these conditions are clarified before the next auction and the auction is therefore postponed.
The NPT added that it will publish a new timeline for the auction at a later date.
