Bharti Airtel has confirmed that its existing GSM license in the African country of Niger has been renewed, and that it has also been granted a 3G license.
The company paid EUR52 million for the permits which will last for 15 years.
Airtel's Chief Executive in Africa, Christian De Faria said after the license was granted that the company has always stood for bringing in better technology in Niger and the African Nations where the company operates.
The license acquisition is a significant indicator of "Airtel's longstanding commitment to provide revolutionary service all across Africa and Niger" Faria said in a statement.
The license renewals means that Airtel now holds 3G licenses in all 17 countries it operates in across the African continent.
