India Passes Mobile Number Portability Landmark
Published on: 30th May 2014
India's telecoms regulator, the TRAI has announced that over 100 million mobile phone subscribers have made use of Mobile Number Portability services.
MNP was first introduced into the country in January 2011.
Initially, around 40% of MNP requests were rejected by the mobile networks due to problems with the applications, but that has fallen to 11 percent now.
MNP has also been boosted by the expansion of the service to corporate accounts earlier this year. Previously it was limited to individuals only.
