Philippine Networks Ordered to Refund Overcharged SMS Costs

Three of the Philippines mobile networks have been ordered to cut the cost of text messages, and issue refunds to customer for what has been called overcharging.
The telecoms regulator issued the order to Smart, Sun Cellular and Globe Telecom.
Both networks have to issue refunds to customers dating back two years for messages sent between networks. The regulator lowered those costs to P0.80 from P1 in 2011.
The refunds are come in the form of credits for prepaid subscribers and bill rebates for postpaid subscribers.
Globe Telecom has already said that it will appeal against the order.
However, the regulator is also being criticized by politicians for taking so long to enforce the order based on a decision taken in 2011.
