Philippines based Globe Telecom has filed a complaint with the telecoms regulator, accusing a local heath firm, Caritas Shield of sending spam SMS to its customers.
In its filing with the NTC, Globe is calling on the regulator to ban the company from sending text messages to its subscribers and seeking penalties and fines against the company.
Globe also wants the NTC to permanently bar Caritas, its agents and employees from sending these spam texts to its customers.
The move is the latest stage in an increasing effort by the mobile networks to clamp down on SMS spam. Customers tend to blame the mobile network for not blocking the messages, rather than the sender who sent them in the first place.
Globe claims that some subscribers received as many as ten messages per day from Caritas Shield promoting its services.
"The clamor of customers to combat spam messages has become a matter of public interest so the NTC should use all its disciplinary powers against spammers like Caritas," Globe said in the complaint.
