Oman's telecom's regulator, the TRA is reportedly planning a roaming cap that would come into effect later this year.

According to the plans, which were reported by the The Times of Oman, a cap of OMR100 ($259) would be applied to contract customers while roaming.

"The limit is being introduced after the TRA received a large number of complaints of 'bill shock' from people while using their phones outside the country," said a spokesman at the regulator.

"Earlier, there wasn't any consumption limit. So, after talking with telecom operators, it was decided that there will be a roaming cap."

The cap is expected to be applied later this year, although a specific date has not been set yet.
