Ghana's telecoms networks have been ordered to rerun the SIM Card registration process after it was found that a sizeable portion of the ID Cards used were fake.
The order to rerun the exercise comes three years after the mobile networks were first ordered to collect subscriber identity documents for their customers.
The Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Boamah did however say that the new registration process will only take place if the National Identification Authority completes the issuance of the National ID Cards.
As the exercise is being carried out due to the inadequacies of the ID documents last used, it is not clear yet who is picking up the cost of the second attempt to register all SIM cards currently in use.
