Vodafone Exec Charged with Theft

A former executive at Vodafone Ireland has been charged with stealing nearly EUR2 million from the company over a four year period.

Vodafone Ireland's former head of corporate financial services, Niall Barron (40) was arrested last week and taken to court to face 42 charges of theft and fraud.

It's claimed that the thefts took place from Vodafone's Irish head office between 2003-2007. He is accused of making fraudulant payments to companies for his own benefit.

Det Gda Niland said the DPP has directed "trial on indictment" meaning the case is to go forward for trial at the Circuit Court.

He did not reply to any of the charges as they were presented to him in court.

The trial hearings will continue in seven weeks time.
