Note -- this news article is more than a year old.
Sweden based Ericsson now has more staff working for it based in India than it does in its home country, it has been revealed.
Ericsson now has nearly 18,000 employees based in India, which is a few hundred more than in Sweden.
Globally, Ericsson employs around 111,000 staff.
The news comes as there is increased pressure from Indian politicans for more telecoms equipment to be manufactured in the country to reduce its trade deficit in such high-tech products.
Ericsson already has manufacturing plants in Jaipur, but mainly uses the country for R&D.
"We see the 4G market in India as a huge opportunity area for ourselves going forward," Nishant Batra, vice president and head of engagement practices at Ericsson, told the Economic Times recently. "We continue to be in talks with our operator customers around their mobile broadband needs including 4G."
