Airvana Names Former Nortel Exec As New CEO

Small cell vendor, Airvana has named Richard Lowe as its new CEO and president, effective immediately. He is replacing the company's current joint CEO Chairman, Randy Battat who is stepping down as CEO, but will remain on as chairman of the board.

The company said that Mr. Lowe has over 30 years' experience leading mobile communications business organizations.

Richard most recently served as chairman of the board at iPhotonix, a pioneer in carrier class optical network access devices. Prior to that he was President of Wireless Networks at Nortel Networks.

"I first came to know Airvana more than a decade ago as one of its major customers. From that time to the present, the company has exerted an outside influence on the wireless industry through its technical innovation, market vision and business execution," said Lowe. "The company has developed an enviable position in small cells and has an exciting LTE small cell development pipeline that I look forward to taking to market."
