Bharti Airtel's Ghana subsidiary has named a Vodafone executive as its new Managing Director.
Lucy Quist is joining Airtel Ghana from Vodafone Ghana where she has been the Director for the Enterprise Business Unit. She is replacing Philip Sowah, who is understood to have resigned to pursue other interests.
Lucy Quist has worked in UK, Portugal, Germany, Spain and France, and returned to Africa where she was able to use her engineering degree in telecoms to enter the mobile market.
Lucy joined Millicom (Tigo) as the regional head of Business Development for Africa. She then transitioned to lead Tigo's Sales and Operations in Ghana, until she was promoted to Chief Marketing Officer in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
She later returned to Ghana working for Vodafone, and is now to head Airtel's operations in the country.
According to figures released by the National Communications Authority (NCA) at the end of February this year Airtel's subscriber base reached 3.5 million representing a market share of 12.4 percent.
