Bahrain based Batelco Group has named a new CEO, Mr. Alan Whelan, nearly a year after the company "separated" from its previous CEO.
The company has been looking for a new CEO since it issued an oddly worded statement last May stating that it had "separated" from its CEO, Shaikh Mohamed bin Isa Al Khalifa had left the firm with immediate effect.
Shaikh Mohamed bin Isa Al Khalifa was appointed to the role in late 2011, replacing Peter Kaliaropoulos, who held the role for less than a year as an interim CEO following the sudden resignation of Gert Rieder in October 2010.
Batelco Chairman Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa said that on behalf of the Board of Directors and executive management at Batelco, he would like to welcome Mr. Whelan to Batelco and to wish him well as he takes on the challenging role at the helm of the Batelco Group."
Mr. Whelan's business career has seen him lead a number of large scale international businesses in the ICT sector.
Shaikh Hamad concluded by extending his appreciation to the Supervisory Committee of the Board of Directors who took on the role of the Group Chief Executive Officer while the search was carried out for a new CEO.
