TalkTalk to Cut 580 UK Jobs

UK based broadband internet and landline service provider, TalkTalk Telecom has announced plans to cut around 580 jobs, which is equivalent to 13% of the company's workforce, as part of a major restructuring of the company. The job losses will be primarily in the back end offices, in areas such as accounting, human resources and IT systems.
TalkTalk was a subsidiary of the mobile phone retailer, Carphone Warehouse until it was spun off from the company last March.
Chief Executive Dido Harding said the group's priority is to "run more efficiently and effectively while continuing to enhance the quality of service we provide.", although the company has come under criticism for the quality of its customer service recently and was censured by the telecoms regulator last year for charging for services after a customer had closed their account.
Harding added: "TalkTalk has effectively grown as three separate businesses serving the consumer and business to business markets, supported by a network division, each with its own IT, HR and finance function. This has created a level of duplication and it is now time to address that and build an organisation fit for the future. From today, we will have one consolidated central services team with all IT services being housed within the technology team."
The new structure is expected to be in place by the end of April
