Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom has commercially launched its LTE network, six weeks earlier than its original schedule targeting the middle of July.
Chunghwa Telecom said that it is targeting having 400,000 4G subscribers by the end of this year, which would be about 40 percent of the country's projected 4G user base.
Chunghwa Telecom obtained the largest block of LTE radio spectrum -- 35 megahertz -- in the 4G license auction last year.
The mobile network expects to have expanded its LTE network coverage to 90% of the country within the next three years.
Rival networks, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone are still expected to launch their 4G networks next month.
