Pelephone Close to Signing LTE Contract with Ericsson

Note -- this news article is more than a year old.

Israeli mobile network, Pelephone is reportedly close to signing a LTE contract with Ericsson.

Without citing sources, local business daily, Globes reported that the two companies are still in negotiations on a contract, in which Ericsson will be declared the exclusive vendor for the first of Pelephone's 4G network.

The scope of the contract includes 440 sites and upgrades of its core network.

It was previously suggested that Ericsson had been awarded the contract, worth USD70 million, but Pelephone renewed negotiations after rival bidders lowered their bids.

The rival bidders are understood to be NSN and Alcatel-Lucent.

The decision may be further complicated by an agreement that Pelephone signed with Cellcom and Golan Telecom to deploy a joint 4G network -- although that is still waiting for regulatory approval.

Ericsson was the main supplier to Pelephone's 3G network.
