Two of Sri Lanka's mobile networks are to share a mobile money platform, after the country's Central Bank approved the plans.
The two companies combined customer base reaches about 60 percent of the market, or about 12.7 million subscribers. The company has expressed hopes that the remaining operators would join the platform as well.
"I think it's a great achievement for two operators to come together in the best interest of the consumer bringing together a complete eco system which spans the entirety of our country and encompassing many institutional partners, including the government of Sri Lanka," Dialog Axiata Group Chief Executive Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya said.
Dialog introduced eZ Cash in June 2012, and it now has around 16,000 agents countrywide handing local payments services.
