Cambodia's Smart Mobile is in the testing phase for its planned WiMAX network, its chief executive officer Thomas Hundt said. The company plans to launch the service in Phnom Penh at the end of the first or beginning of the second quarter.
Smart held its first live test of the system during the ASEAN Tourism Forum on Koh Pich last week, with "excellent" results, according to Hundt.
The WiMAX service will also be launched in Siem Reap and Battambang in the near future he added. The company has no plans to offer WiMAX capable mobile phones and will be selling the service as an alternative to fixed internet service providers.
