Nigeria's Globacom has launched the country's first LTE based 4G network, with coverage in Lagos and some other unspecified "key cities". The service will be limited to corporate subscribers initially.
Group Chief Operating Officer of Globacom, Mr. Mohamed Jameel said that the company was being proactive in meeting the mobile broadband need of its growing subscriber base. "As the data dependence and applications grow, the need to deliver higher speeds on wireless would continue to grow," Jameel stated.
No further information was provided by the company about the network deployment or the way it plans to market the service to customers.
According to figures from the Mobile World analysts, Globacom - which trades as Glo Mobile - ended last September with around 19.4 million subscribers, representing a market share of 23.7%.
