Amazon Adds Audio Playback Within Kindle Apps
Published on: 10th Jun 2014
Amazon has released a free software upgrade for some of its Kindle devices that lets users switch between reading a book, or having it read out to them.
With Whispersync for Voice, the Kindle app lets users switch instantly between reading a Kindle book or listening to the companion audiobook from Audible -- all with just one tap, without leaving the book.
"We continue to hear from a growing number of Whispersync for Voice converts who tell us the innovation has profoundly changed the way they read-in fact, switching back and forth between reading and listening has become their preferred way of experiencing stories," said Audible founder and CEO Donald Katz. "And the feature has gotten easier and easier to use, as this exciting integration into Kindle apps attests."
Professional narration is available for more than 45,000 Kindle books and growing.
Users have to pay for the additional audio file though, with prices from US$1 to US$4 per book in addition to the ebook version.
