Microsoft Developing its Own Smartwatch Products

Note -- this news article is more than a year old.
Fresh from its purchase of Nokia's handsets division, Microsoft is said to be working on a range of wearable devices, including its first smartwatch.
Citing unnamed sources, Forbes reported that the first product -- the smartwatch would measure heart rate and synchs with iPhones, Android phones and Windows Phones.
The device is expected to have made use of the optical engineering expertise from Microsoft's Xbox Kinect division to continuously measure heart rate. That continuous monitoring marks the product out from current heart monitors, which tend to need to be switched on proactively by the user.
The timeline for the watch's release date is unclear but Microsoft is thought to be pushing for a launch within the next couple of months.
That it works with non-Windows based phones also suggests a more open approach from the company seeking to reach beyond its own Nokia handset market.
