The UK 's largest supermarket chain Tesco is to launch its own range of smartphones later this year as a follow up to its tablet device launch last year.

Tesco already operates an MVNO with a customer base in the region of 3.2 million subscribers.

Tesco\'s CEO, Philip Clarke told the BBC that the Tesco branded tablet, the Hudi has sold half a million units since its launch, and that a revamped version would be released this September.

Hoe then added that the company will also launch a smartphone, which will be pitched at the upper end of the market in terms of quality, but will be "aggressively priced".

He didn\'t offer any details about the phone capabilities though.
