Rumours have been heightened that Microsoft is close to releasing an update to uts Windows Phone OS following an apparent leak on the company's own website.

A link at the top of the Windows Phone OS page on the Microsoft website made a brief mention to Windows Phone 8.1, in addition to the current WP 8.0 that the company offers.

Microsoft has been widely expected to release an update shortly, with most expectations of some sort of announcement next month at a developer conference.

If the company is preparing its website for the launch, and accidentally flicked the wrong switch to reveal the hidden link, then the new OS can be just a few weeks away.

Some of the rumoured upgrades include a Siri style voice service, support for removable USB drives and Android style notification centres.
