SMS Crime Reporting to Be Expanded

A service that enables Malaysian in Malaka to report crimes via SMS is to be expanded nationwide, reported the official Bernama news agency. The system introduced only last month by the Melaka police has already resulted in over 300 messages being sent to the police.

Melaka Police Chief Datuk Christopher Wan Soo Kee said the system had attracted the attention of Bukit Aman CID Director Datuk Seri Salleh Mat Som.

"From my briefing to him (Salleh) and other police officers attending a meeting here, it was decided that the SMS communication system be introduced by other State contingents immediately," he told Bernama.

The system was introduced as it enables people to report crimes without being identified."
