Azerbaijan Getting a CDMA2000 1x Network

The Azerbaijan CDMA fixed wireless operator Caspian American Telecom (Catel) has opened a tender for a full CDMA2000 1X network according to a comment in the local newspaper Baku Today. The tender is calling for a network that will support 25 000 subscribers by the end of next year. The company has allocated a budget of USD4 million for the project.

Caspian American Telecom LLC (CATEL) is an American joint venture that was established in 1997 by the Ministry of Communications of the Azerbaijan Republic and US consortium OMCL (Omni - Metromedia - Caspian Ltd.). Azerbaijani and American shares are equal. Currently, CATEL has more than 10,000 customers and 75 employees."
