NEC Promoting 3G Video Services
NEC says that it would start marketing Video Communication Solutions for emerging Mobile markets in Europe and other parts of the world. The objective is to proactively create and support new value-added mobile services over high-speed mobile infrastructures such as GPRS, EDGE, 3G systems and future high-speed infrastructures.
NEC's Video Communication Solutions for Mobile include high-quality live video delivery, video telephony, video conferencing, video content delivery, video surveillance and video storage solutions by mobile phones over high-speed infrastructure such as 2.5G or 3G. It is possible to establish a video link between PCs at home and office locations and 3G mobile terminals anywhere through the newly developed 3G Gateway. The advanced MPEG-4 Encoder realizes real-time surveillance services over GPRS networks. Live transmission of concerts, sport, events or status reports of on-going works such as construction or traffic bottlenecks can be accessed on 3G handsets. News, weather forecasts, movie and transport schedules and other information can be provided in streaming format to the 3G mobile handsets. For non-real-time requirements, video and images taken by 3G handsets, saved and stored and can be distributed on a demand basis.
NEC will further promote this solution in tandem with advanced mobile applications such as mobile Internet Rating System, operator/content provider billing system and mobile Digital Rights Management systems that it has developed to provide total solution benefits to mobile operators."
