Nortel Wins Brazilian GPRS Contract

Brazil's Claro, a subsidiary of America Movil has selected Nortel Networks to deploy a GPRS core network across all its GSM properties in Brazil. Based on a recent supply agreement, Nortel Networks is providing Claro with next generation GPRS packet core infrastructure to support wireless data services, and to enhance Claro's wireless Internet management, advanced data routing and security capabilities. The new network is expected to be operational by the end of 2003.

"This strengthens our long-standing relationship with Claro," said Herve Adam, managing director, for Nortel Networks in Brazil. "It also reaffirms our global leadership in delivering Wireless Data Networks, and positions Nortel Networks as an advanced GSM infrastructure supplier in Brazil. This technology will position Claro to provide sophisticated mobile data services on a platform that delivers exceptional reliability."
