3G Call Made in Estonia
On September 17, the first 3G call in Estonia was made in the EMT trial network. Opening addresses were made by Meelis Atonen, the Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications, and Peep Aaviksoo, EMT CEO.
"With the functioning of the 3G or third-generation mobile connection in the trial network, the 3G commercial network will be in reach of the Estonian mobile customers' hand," said EMT CEO Peep Aaviksoo. "There are currently 9 operational 3G networks in the world with 1.35 million customers, about 1000 times less than GSM has today. The speed and volume of 3G data connection have been made from much stronger and better wood than GSM. The great difference in the number of customers indicates the impressive development potential for 3G."
