New CEO for MTN Uganda
Campbell Utton, Chairman of Board of Directors MTN Uganda, has announced the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer for MTN Uganda. Mr. Noel Meier will be taking over from Tom Bragaw, who, as CEO, led the team through the highly successful implementation phase to where the business is today.
Noel started his career with the Department of Posts & Telecommunications where he gained a wealth of experience in the Telecommunications industry. In 1995, soon after the launch of mobile services in South Africa, he moved from Telkom SA to MTN as Regional General Manager, responsible for operations in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.
In 1998, Noel was requested to head up the implementation teams tasked with the establishment of MTN's GSM operations in Rwanda and Uganda. Acting as CEO for both operations, he successful initiated the start up process until handover to permanent CEO appointees.
In 1999 Noel was appointed CEO of MTN Swaziland during which time MTN Swaziland enjoyed extraordinarily growth and in doing so, trebled the country's telecommunications market. Today, MTN Swaziland reaches over 80% of the population and is ranked in the top 10 most mobile penetrated countries in Africa.
