MMS Used to Help Cut Crime
Malaysia's police are to start accepting information from members of the public using MMS camera phones. The new service was officially launched by State Human Resources, Health and Consumer Affairs committee chairman Datuk Seah Kwi Tong and will be available in Malacca.
"SMS is especially useful if someone is caught in an inconvenient situation to make a call to alert the police, such as under the threat of intimidation or facing suspicious characters or drug addicts.
"MMS is great as complainants can send the police pictorial proof of what they claimed was happening or keep the police informed of the on-going situation of an incident," said state chief police officer Senior Asst Comm Datuk Christopher Wan.
The service has been in trial mode for some weeks with a police officers own personal handset. In that time he received at least 10 photo messages per day from members of the public and now the service has been formally launched with an IT center at the police station to process the messages."
