Nokia Picks Up American GSM Contract

The USA based, Viaero Wireless has selected Nokia to be sole supplier of a GSM network overlay that will replace the existing CDMA network. Under the agreement, Nokia will supply a complete system, including GSM and GPRS core networks, an EDGE-capable radio network, and the Nokia NetAct network and service management system. In addition, Nokia is providing network planning and optimization, implementation, as well as care services.

Deliveries have already begun and the network will be operational in the beginning of October 2003.

Viaero Wireless has acquired PCS licenses to serve a territory of over 70,000 square miles in northeast Colorado and western and central Nebraska. The current analog wireless system serving northeast Colorado will continue to function as an alternative for Colorado subscribers. All subscribers on the current CDMA system in Nebraska will be replaced with GSM before years' end."
