IXP Picks Up New York Radio Contract
iXP Corp. has been selected by the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY) as its vendor of choice to evaluate the Department's radio infrastructure and the operational capacity of its communication system. This program expands iXP's existing relationship with FDNY as the Department's system integrator overseeing FDNY's citywide public safety technology modernization initiatives.
The FDNY project comes as a result of recommendations made by the consulting firm McKinsey & Company in its report on the events of September 11, 2001. McKinsey was commissioned by FDNY and the New York Police Department to make recommendations for improved emergency response in the wake of the World Trade Center attacks.
iXP will lead a team of nationally recognized experts to provide FDNY with a technology study for radio, an operational review and technical specifications supporting legislation for providing in-structure coverage for first-responder communications.
"As trusted professionals, iXP has provided the FDNY with progressive recommendations we can depend on," said Deputy Commissioner Milton Fischberger of the New York Fire Department. "iXP's experience and expertise will be invaluable in helping us to prepare for future challenges."
"With millions of lives on the line, the FDNY requires the most up-to-date, efficient communications technology available. Downtime is simply not an option," said Richard E. Dale, Chairman and CEO of iXP. "We are very pleased the FDNY chose iXP to help with the complex evaluation of its radio system. We have worked closely in partnership with the FDNY for more than two years, and we are pleased to be extending this relationship even further."
