LogicaCMG Wins Rural MMS Order
LogicaCMG has won a contract from the US rural operator, Dobson Communications Corp. to supply a Multimedia Messaging Service Centre (MMSC) and Wireless Internet Solution. Dobson Communications will launch MMS and Wireless Internet services to its subscribers using LogicaCMG's MMSC and Wireless Service Broker (WSB). The new services will be available in select markets beginning in the 4th quarter of this year with the remainder of the markets launching in 2004.
These services build on the integrated suite of mobile messaging offerings provided by LogicaCMG to Dobson enabling the seamless delivery of SMS and MMS messages across TDMA and GSM/GPRS networks. LogicaCMG's MMSC is device and network agnostic which will empower Dobson Cellular to select mobile devices appropriate for their subscribers and the LogicaCMG MMS solution will allow for instant interoperability. The Multimedia Messaging solution completes a total wireless data architecture constructed by LogicaCMG, which includes MMS, SMS and Wireless Internet.
Critical functions such as transcoding, which ensures an optimum end-user experience by adapting the multimedia messages to all different handsets supported, underpin the high levels of service delivered by LogicaCMG. The state-of-the art Transcoding solution will be delivered through LogicaCMG's partnership with Philips, a leading player in the media processing industry. In addition, the deployment of LogicaCMG's Wireless Service Broker (WSB) will also ensure seamless transmission of MMS services to subscribers on Dobson's GSM/GPRS network.
LogicaCMG says that it has a global MMS market share in excess of 20%, with commercially deployed MMS solutions servicing over 65 million subscribers around the world."
